THE ROAMERS HIT THE BITUMEN ONCE AGAIN
Well, our last trip was not so much a Roamers’ adventure but we did all meet through the Roamers. A couple of us decided to head south to Parkes to see the Elvis Festival. Three vans hit the road with a fourth Roamer meeting up along the way. We free camped most of the time or stayed in showgrounds where you always meet interesting people. The Thermal Pools at Moree surely came in handy to cool off from the bitumen-melting heat!
Our accommodation at Parkes was on a local councillor’s property. We had met Cr Ken McGrath on a roadside stop the year before. The days were busy with Elvis lookalikes and buskers everywhere. That song ‘Teddy Bear’ stuck in our heads for weeks after! Ha! The nights were spent around the barbecue and lucky for us, we even had an ‘Elvis’ staying with us (aka Trevor T). He performed for us while we enjoyed a free barbecue put on by Cr Ken and his
lovely wife, Sue. Happy hour(s) were very entertaining!
